TRAINERS FOR COMPUTER LAB @ MADRASAH ROHINGYA
Assalaamu’Alaikum WRWB.
Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran is a Rohingya Refugee Centre located in Subang-Shah Alam.
It was set-up a few years ago, providing a semi-permanent shelter for 45 boys & girls below 12 years. All are Rohingya, some orphaned and some with single parents.
iCharity Malaysia continues to help them. Recently, we donated washing machines, a refrigerator and clothes for the children during Eid and settled their overdue bills. Also sponsored Iftar & Sahur meals for 20 nights of Ramadan.
This Centre doubles up as Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran providing the children with basic Islamic education and an opportunity to hifz Quran, as children of efugees cannot enrol in public schools. Being deprived of school-based education, they only have an option of either Islamic education, hifz Quran or none at all, while they await UNHCR repatriation to countries willing to grant them permanent stay and this may take years, if not decades.
Meanwhile, they will remain in limbo, hoping for better times.
To help them learn new skills and become marketable, iCharity is setting up a Computer Training Lab at their Subang Centre to provide basic IT training and to help upskill the children that are currently languishing with no opportunity for any formal school-based education.
Training is planned only for Rohingya children. Yes, the cost of trainers will be a significant cost implication. Being located in the semi-rural backyard of Petaling Jaya, we anticipate demand from outsiders for computer use. If well managed, the Computer Lab can soon become self-sustainable by charging hourly rates for its use.
Estimated set-up cost:
PCs – RM10,000
Partitioning – RM5,000
Electrical/Aircon – RM3,000
Computer tables – RM1,000
Overhead Projector/screen – RM2,000
Contingency (20%) RM4,000
TOTAL PHASE 1 COST: RM25,000
We received an initial donation of RM10,000 which has enabled us to kick-start this project. Site preparation is currently at 60% completion.
An additional RM15,000 is needed to fully equip the Lab and commence classes in June.
